In a large pot, combine 1 bottle of red wine, 1 sliced orange, 8 whole cloves, 2 cinnamon sticks, and 2 star anise.
Add 60 grams of sugar and gently heat the mixture for about 20-25 minutes. Make sure not to boil it.
Taste the wine and add more sugar if required. You can also add a dash of brandy for extra warmth.
Strain the mulled wine and serve it hot in mugs or heatproof glasses.
Garnish with a slice of orange or a cinnamon stick if desired.
